Get Away 2024 Movie Review

The mix of comedy and horror ( slasher ) has to be balanced. That is, if one is more important than the other, it becomes a pastiche that will not make us laugh at all and will not terrify us at all. Get Away is one of those films that, despite its good intentions, falls hopelessly into the typical clichés of both worlds. The whole thing is quite predictable with a cynical type of humor, very British, to put it one way. It is like someone who tells you a joke with a lot of wit, but that you have heard countless times. Before finishing it you are already bored.

Despite everything said about its predictability, we understand that a certain type of audience can be convinced. It has a nice twist that has the disadvantage of leaving us cold within a vulgar plot.

A family goes on vacation to a remote island in Sweden to disconnect from their busy life. The reception of the locals is not entirely friendly. In addition, they discover, with horror, that it is inhabited by a serial killer.

Steffen Haars does his best to raise a film with a very hackneyed and seen script, whose authorship falls to the great Nick Frost who makes his solo debut in the screenplay . The attachment that all horror fans feel for Nick Frost makes us look at it with affection. But we already know how cruel the film world is, he has no friends and what was once the best, today has no grace. The world turns and turns and we come to the conclusion that the phrase: renew or die, is fully valid.

We are not going to disdain it entirely either. It has some gags that are worth it and simple, but quite effective gore. When we look at its production date, 2024, we are shocked, it seems like we are watching a film shot decades ago, which loses that thing that we really like called novelty.

Let’s talk about the performances. We have as our protagonist Nick Frost himself ( Shaun of the Dead , Attack the Block ), in a role very much in line with what we expect from an actor who has always had the approval of the public. On this occasion he does not contribute much to a very stereotypical character. The other members of the strange family are Sebastian Croft as the son, Aisling Bea plays the mother and Maisie Ayres plays the daughter. From the rest of the cast I would like to highlight Eero Milonoff ( Border ).

We are finishing now, Get AwayIt’s a film that, despite everything said, can make you have a good time. If you’re one of those who are looking for something more or expect to laugh out loud, you’d better look for other alternatives.
