High Potential Review 2024 Tv Show Series Cast Crew Online
So, first things first – I enjoyed the pilot. (I will update as the show goes on). I will be honest, I’m a Kaitlin Olsen fan. She is great in Always Sunny, was great in The Mick (which was cancelled too soon!!!! #Justice4SofiaBlack-D’Elia) Olsen is good in this, plays the character with a nice balance of endearing but also obnoxious. A lesser actress would’ve made this character too annoying and torpedoed the show from the jump.
So, the biggest gripe I see is people saying “if she is so smart, then why is she a cleaning lady?”
I think the first episode answers this… and maybe I’m reading into it too much. However, I think the implication is that she is so intelligent, catches so many details, that a “regular job” or a job where she is working under anyone… would drive her insane. She would catch so many mistakes/problems – that should would either spend her nights awake in frustration thinking about them, or get herself fired by blunting telling bosses/superiors whenever they were doing something stupid/making a mistake.
It is also, clear from the pilot, that the disappearance of her oldest daughter’s father has caused considerable emotional damage to her. Being the High IQ problem solver she is, she is hyper-fixated on that mystery which likely affects her ability to hold a regular job.
Also also, the fact that she has a high IQ – most high IQ people are hyper focused on specific things, but their personal lives are in considerable disorder.
From my interpretation of the first episode, she works as a cleaning lady at night because it allows her to be home with her kids during the day and most importantly – she is working for “herself” and not having to interact with people. (Interacting with people either leads to confrontations, problems for her to solve, or problems that she isn’t able to solve but will stay awake thinking about).
It works! It makes sense. You have to suspend disbelief that same amount as ANY OTHER police procedural with a genius/Sherlock Holmes character.
The Mentalist was the same thing, a guy that was incredibly observant, that could be doing anything, but chooses – for personal reasons – to work with the authorities to solve crimes, even though they don’t have a background in law enforcement.
I am looking forward to seeing where this goes, there is crime, mystery, comedy, and seems like it will have a fair bit of drama. Missing first love, a mom who feels emotions deeply and doesn’t want her daughter to feel like she doesn’t fit in to the family. A teen daughter that feels like she doesn’t fit in and is only a half sibling to her younger brother and sister. Lots of potential drama to explore there.
So far so good!
Btw 7/10 for me is a really really solid TV show score.
