“Paradise” kicks off with a strong start. Immediately pulls you into a world where mystery and suspense converge to create a compelling narrative. If you’re a fan of drama mixed with mystery and thrill, this series (so far) does not shy away from taking risks, offering a ride that’s both engaging and thought-provoking from the get-go.

From the pilot through to the start of the second episode, the show’s deliberate pacing builds tension and curiosity. Writing is good, offering dialogues that are both gritty, and sometimes funny. Acting in the first Ep – excellent. Ep three stalls part way through. Not a good sign this early i the shows first season.

The heart of the story lies with a security detail tasked with protecting a former president, enriched by flashbacks that explore the intricate relationship between Agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), and the initially unlikeable President Cal Bradford (James Marsden), who is introduced as kind of an “a-hole” – but undergoes a transformation from unlikeable to sympathetic.

It’s a TV show! Suspend some of your critical thinking and disbelief – and instead, enjoy the ride! Be ready to embrace its imaginative world and the unexpected turns it takes. The show dares to dream big, presenting an ambitious world, which might challenge some viewers’ suspension of disbelief, but it’s precisely this ambition that sets “Paradise” apart.

Like any good mystery/suspense story, it does have a twist – which will feel unexpected! The twist will either be a masterstroke or a point of contention, potentially alienating some viewers by shifting the narrative in a bold new direction. This bold move is both the show’s strength and its risk, as it might not resonate with everyone. It’s for this reason that my rating currently sits mid-way after viewing the third episode, and that rating could change with whatever direction the show decides to take from episode 4 onwards!
