Rebel Ridge 2024 Movie Review

Excellent picture. Screenplay is purely written. Rebel Ridge is like Walking Tall with no ego’s and brains. Story is a bit confusing (Hence 9 stars not 10). However, story is original and realistic. The actors in this picture perfectly compliment the screenplay. Saulnier created very intriguing and captivating characters. The protagonist, Aaron Pierre comes across with humble confidence yet underneath has a deadly sting. He’s the friend you wish you had on your side. AnnaSophia Robb plays a victim without portraying a victim. She accepts her fate and does the best she can. (Sorry, no spoilers) Overtime she has the same humble confidence yet without the sting. They both work very well together. None of the predictable sexual tension. Just an honest relationship that cares for each other.

Don Johnson, the antagonist, is greedy and corrupt yet shows signs of greed and corruption as a virtue. I liked his character but in the end, he is just a bad seed. Supporting cast, David Denman, Emory Cohen (I want to punch him) and James Cromwell were excellent addition. Clearly a police consultant was used in this picture. Saulnier researched police tactics and made them very realistic, right down to uniforms, weaponry, and police video recordings.

I have to admit I never heard Jeremy Saulnier. He made an excellent picture. He will definitely be in-demand for future projects. Looking forward to his next project.
