Roswell, New Mexico Review 2019 Tv Show Series Season Cast Crew Online
Stars: Rosa Arredondo, Jeanine Mason, Tyler Blackburn
Review: The CW has given a pilot order to the Roswell reboot!
Well, Roswell, New Mexico that is. The CW has given the reboot its own fresh name by adding the state after the city.
The project is a reimagining of the science fiction teen drama about aliens living in the famous New Mexico town that ran from 1999-2002 on The WB and then UPN. With showrunners like Friday Night Lights‘ Jason Katims and Battlestar Galactica‘s Ronald D. Moore and cast members like Katherine Heigl, Colin Hanks, Emilie de Ravin, Nick Wechler, and Shiri Appleby amongst its numbers, it transcended its teen drama roots to become something greater.
Fifteen years later, The CW is looking to bring Roswell back. According to Deadline, the network is looking to “reimagine” the series based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz, with The Originals writer Carina Adly MacKenzie writing and executive producing.
According to the story, Roswell, New Mexico will play up the immigration undertones that were mostly left unexplored in the TV show. It promises to “reflect the realities of its location in a state bordering Mexico.”
The only behind-the-scenes link between the original Roswell TV series and Roswell, New Mexico will be executive producer Kevin Kelly Brown, who was an executive producer on the original series, as well.
The Roswell reboot has taken an important step forward to ensuring us that this is all real by casting its lead character. Jeanine Mason, best known as Dr. Sam Bello on ABC’s eternal Grey’s Anatomy, will be portraying Liz Ortecho for the rebooted Roswell, New Mexico. Ortecho will play an important role in the show’s new investment in immigration as a main theme. Deadline describes the role thusly:
Reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, Liz Ortecho (Mason), a jaded biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants, is haunted by a tragic incident. She discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: He’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.
Mason’s is of Cuban descent and she began her career as a dancer, notably winning season 5 of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance.
The Roswell reboot has filled out its series regular cast with Nathan Parsons (True Blood), Lily Cowles (BrainDead), Michael Vlamis (New Girl), Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars), and Heather Hemmens (If Loving You Is Wrong).
According to Deadline, Parsons will play the Max character, “a natural born leader and dedicated Roswell police officer who has kept a secret for years, concealing his origin and unearthly abilities.” Cowles will portray Isobel, “polished and restrained, Isobel wasn’t meant for small-town life, but she lives it with all the grace and enthusiasm she can muster in order to keep her true origins a secret.” Vlamis has been cast as Michael, “troubled but brilliant, he survived a violent childhood and now is secretly driven to find a way to escape Earth and the humans who have failed him, to return to a mysterious home he’s never known.”
As for Blackburn, he has been cast as Sgt. Alex Manes, recently returned home from the Middle East. Deadline teases: “After experiencing his fair share of psychological and physical trauma, Alex aims to adhere to his father’s expectations, abandoning his dreams and the possibility of a future with the man he loves.” Finally, Hemmens has been cast as Maria, “Liz’s fun, free-spirited former best friend and social media maven who is oblivious to the realities of Roswell.”
