THE ACCIDENT (2024) is a new Netflix series from Mexico (org. title Accidente). It’s a thriller series about a tragedy where three children die and a fourth goes missing. Everyone needs someone to blame even though the title tells us it was accidental.

With 10 episodes, we get to know each of the families involved in the accident. Or rather, the families of kids who were directly involved in this brutal and unpredictable event. There is a soapy feel to it at times, but the thriller and drama elements outweigh that.

Such a cruel fate

Despite the title being The Accident, and the main event being very much accidental, the question of whether it could have been avoided is at the heart of this story. As the aftermath of a tragic accident leads to more tragedy, answers, and more questions arise.

It all begins on a beautiful sunny day when an unsecured bouncy castle gets blown away during a birthday party. Suddenly, a very intense gust of wind takes hold of the bouncy castle which results in the death of three children, and a fourth child missing.

With this one freak accident, when the weather forecast promised only clear skies and calm weather, the lives of four families are transformed forever. All within seconds!

The new Mexican thriller series – with tragedy and drama driving the storyline – comes from creator Leonardo Padrón. He previously worked on the Netflix series Pálpito which has one of the same main stars. Also, he wrote on many other series.

In The Accident (org. title: Accidente), the characters are left with so many questions after the events of episode 1. How could it happen? Could it have been avoided? And who – if anyone – can we blame to help make sense of it all?!

That’s what we’ll find out over the whopping 10 episodes that are each around 40 minutes long.
