The point being that due to the contradicting account by the agent regarding the firing of the guns being proof of validity of the warrant, it got me to question whether the cult broke a law like that, even though the warrant was for the grenades. This made me feel like the agents might be way off about a lot of things. In the way they approached it, I think they were.

That the situation was handled in the wrong way was reflected by the cult stating that if the agents ceased fire, they would cease fire. A lot of cult members and children walked out during the next 51 days. They were allowed to leave. That is a very strong indication that some pretty hefty mistakes were made on the part of law enforcement officials in terms of how you approach a situation like this.

When you with a huge armed force approach people that are armed, they will feel threatened. Although the cult had weapons, they weren’t openly threatening anyone. Kids would play outside. The proper response would be to first sit down and talk to them. The cult leader was a cult leader and explaining his thoughts and views was his thing. If you just ask him to talk about that and maybe show you around, most likely you wouldn’t need a warrant.

He wanted to speak. I think they should have just let the man speak. Then you can act appropriately. Arrest him for having sex with kids. Maybe he would’ve given up the grenades when prompted for that, because grenades were illegal. Don’t start off with any judgment of your own. It just should have been handled differently.

The documentary offers many views that allow you to approach the entire case from a broader point of view, which I feel is good. It’s really well edited and honest in representing people’s individual views, which aren’t necessarily the views of the law.
