What happens when a self-proclaimed “human tornado” hits a health crisis and decides to start living the wellness lifestyle? Netflix is willing to bet you’re curious. That’s why they are presenting the new series Wellmania.

The show is set to bring the bestselling book by Brigid Delaney to life, exposing the erratic mindset of a young woman willing to go to amazing lengths to achieve society’s ideal version of “wellness.” Here’s everything we know about the new Netflix series Wellmania.

Wellmania: The Plot

Liv has a problem. She’s an Australian woman who has been living life a bit too hard and is suddenly hit with the fact that her health may not be as great as she thought. This health scare makes her look at her stressed-out life and her out-of-shape body and make some changes. Or at least try.

Liv will take on and take in the wellness industry in all its Instagrammable goodness. With the help of some friends and pushback from others, she is going to try things she may never have tried before and see if she really can get “healthy.” Along the way, she will try some of the most drastic areas of the wellness industry. She starts by attempting to tackle a 101-day extreme fast. It will take all she can to get through it as she attempts to find her inner strength. Liv also tries yoga for the first time, a lot of it, and will make sure that she keeps up with it regardless of what others say.

It is a battle of wills: her inner voice versus her inner pessimist and eagerness to stop. But along the way she will catalog her journey as she heads into the world of meditation, deep breathing, and a myriad of retreats meant to bring her in tune with herself. The Balinese healing sessions and colonics may not be what she wants, but it must be worth it to be well.

However, with all these different ways of using herself as a guinea pig, the thought begins to cross Liv’s mind that maybe it isn’t worth it. Maybe the silent retreats and juice bar visits aren’t keeping her happy. They may even just be expensive ways of pretending she has solutions to her problems. In the end, will Liv find happiness doing things that don’t really make her happy? Also, what does wellness actually mean to the average person?

With friends, doctors, and even a couple of paramedics, she may find that the answers aren’t exactly what she signed up for.

Wellmania: The Cast & Crew

The show is based on the book by Brigid Delaney, a well-known columnist who documented her own journey through what became her Wellmania book. She is credited with creating the show along with Benjamin Law (Creator of Family Law).

Wellmania is produced by Fremantle Australia and executive produced by Celeste Barber and Warren Clarke (The Heights), Benjamin Law, and Belinda King (Cleopatra in Space). Due to being shot and produced in Australia, the production boasts a number of well-known television names. It features well-known actors from Australia and New Zealand. These include Celeste Barber (Seriously Red) as Liv, Lachlan Buchanan (Ford v Ferrari) as Liv’s friend Gaz, and Remy Hii (Spider-Man: Far From Home) as Gaz’s fiancé Dalbert.

Other actors include JJ Fong (Creamerie) as Liv’s best friend Amy and Genevieve Mooy (The Dish) as Liv’s mother. The cast also includes Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Alexander Hodge (Insecure), and Miranda Otto (The Unusual Suspects).
