Leave the World Behind 2023 Movie Review

Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke starring together in this movie I hadnt even heard anything about. But these are 2 of my favorite actors. And with executive producers like Barrack Obama and Michelle Obama. Yes, the former president of the USA. No kiddin. I am all in!

It starts out as described in the trailer that there seems to be some sort of cybernet dysfunction caused by unknown circumstances which isolates the family of Julia Roberts inside a luxurious vacation home in the American country side. No tv, no phone, no gps in the cars. WHAT’s going on? THAT is the cliff hanger…

The good: what is especially praiseworthy is that this story keeps us viewers guessing upon till the very last minute WHAT is going on? A cyberattack? Some weird nature phenomenon? We dont know for sure. This extended and contineous suspense is to die for! Really enjoyable and a bit spooky, but not too much…

More good: so nice to see these stellar actors work together on the silver screen again. With a superb performance by Mahershala Ali. Even the 2 kid actors, whom I didnt know were acting really well. Supported by a wonderfully suspsenful direction, with very creative photography and a dauntingly great soundscore. Quite a thrill to watch.

Recommended watch for those who are into the more subtle mystery plots, with extended suspense, without knowing why there seems to be an ominous unknown danger coming at us…
