Netflix has revealed the first trailer and set the release date for the Norwegian-language movie, ‘Battle: Freestyle.’ The film which is a sequel to the Norwegian dance feature Battle will release on April 1 on Netflix, worldwide.
In the sequel Battle: Freestyle, Amalie and her boyfriend Mikael have only one goal in life: to become stars in the competitive world of street dance. They finally receive their big shot after struggling for a long time. Their dance team advances to the world championships in France. Life begins to unravel in Paris. The competition is tough. The team realizes they need to improve their showcase or they won’t be able to compete. Meanwhile, Amalie is concerned with finding her estranged mother, who runs a dancing school in Paris. Her stage presence decreases as she botches the crew’s new routines, adding to everyone’s annoyance. Amalie is confronted by the crew, who requests that she leave the competition if she is unable to attend rehearsals. The world of professional dancing is a hard one. Amalie must choose between Mikael’s love, her longing for her absent mother, and her passion for dance. Who is she to become?
Battle: Freestyle is based on the book by internationally acclaimed writer Maja Lunde. It stars Lisa Teige from the hit Norwegian series Skam/Shame together with Fabian Svegaard Tapia and also co-stars French dancing stars such as B-Boy Junior, Keiona, and Salah Benlemqawanssa.
The film is produced by Pål Røed and Christian Frederik Martin (Friland), directed by Ingvild Søderlind, and is written by talented debut writer Martina Cecelia. The sequel of Battle takes place in Paris. The film was supposed to release in 2021, but due to unknown reasons, it got postponed and now it is releasing in April 2022.
Battle: Freestyle is produced by Pål Røed and Christian Fredrik Martin for Friland Produksjon and Paasan. Friland Produksjon was acquired by Maipo Film AS. With the target of creating quality film and tv-series for Scandinavian and international audiences, the two producers are known for films like Battle, Pionér, Headhunters, and the nordic noir tv-series Monster.
